Thaa Atoll (Kolhumadulu) is gaining recognition as a model for sustainable tourism in the Maldives. The atoll has significant sea turtle nesting beaches, resident nurse sharks, and rich coral gardens that have benefited from conservation efforts.
The waters around Thaa are home to spectacular biodiversity — whale sharks are seen seasonally, manta rays frequent the channels, and the house reefs of resorts here are exceptional for snorkelling. The atoll is also known for producing some of Maldives’ finest lacquerwork and traditional crafts.
