Haa Alifu Atoll (North Thiladhunmathi) is the northernmost atoll in the Maldives, close to the Indian subcontinent and relatively untouched by tourism. It is home to Utheemu island, birthplace of Sultan Mohamed Thakurufaanu who liberated the Maldives from Portuguese rule in the 16th century — a site of profound national significance.
The atoll’s remote location means exceptional marine biodiversity in waters that see relatively few divers. Whale sharks visit seasonally, the coral gardens are pristine, and the local culture is deeply traditional.
